Leontien van Moorsel was the leading lady of women's cycling for a long time. She made history with four Olympic titles. In January 2011 Leontien van Moorsel
started her own professional cycling team: the AA Drink / Leontien.nl Cycling Team. BeOne is the official supplier of this new team.
Leontien van Moorsel was the best female cyclist in the world, and she still feels connected with cycling. The AA Drink / Leontien.nl Cycling Team is a dream
come true for her. The fourteen women and eight men on the team are active in three different disciplines: road racing, cyclo cross and track. Leontien is the
initiator and sports director of this multidisciplinary team, and will be assisted by her husband, team manager Michael Zijlaard. Eye-catchers on the women's team
are Kirsten Wild and Chantal Blaak, who both participated in the world championships last year in Melbourne. Thijs Al (cyclo cross) and Léon van Bon (track) are
the ones to watch on the men's team.
"Title sponsor AA Drink and supplier BeOne made it possible to lead the team in a professional manner", says Leontien van Moorsel. "Every rider can focus purely on
the sport. I consider it a great chance to give something back to the sport I owe so much to. It's a unique project because we bring together male and female riders
on one team. I expect a lot of cooperation between the different specialists. For example, Léon van Bon has a lot of experience in road racing, but also on the track.
We have to benefit from that."
"An important goal is to get a few of our female riders to the Olympic Summer Games in London. I think that Dutch women Willy Kanis, Kirsten Wild and Chantal Blaak
have a good chance, as do our foreign riders Trixi Worrack (Germany) and Linda Villumsen (New Zealand), who won bronze at the world championships time trial last year.
I think they could also play a major role in the world championships team time trial for trade teams that will be held for the first time in 2012."
Léon van Bon wants to shine once more in 2011. The winner of two Tour de France stages, an Olympic silver and a bronze world championship medal, was pleasantly surprised
that Leontien asked him to join the team. "It shows her confidence in me. I'd like to act as a mentor and help to promote women's cycling", he says. "But I'm also still
ambitious. I'm determined to perform well on the track."
